Baptism at
Mercy Village Church

A Sacrament. A Symbol. A Story. A Celebration.
At Mercy Village Church, baptism is one of our most joy-filled moments as a church family. It’s a holy sacrament where God meets us in the water. It’s a symbol that preaches the gospel. It’s a story of grace made public. And it’s a celebration of life made new in Christ.

Baptism is...

Baptism is more than a religious ritual. At Mercy Village, we call it what it truly is:

A holy sacrament. A sacred symbol. A personal story. And a joyful celebration.

It’s a sacrament, a holy moment when the veil between heaven and earth gets thin. Like communion, it’s a “portal within the portal,” a tangible way the supernatural touches the natural in the life of a believer. In baptism, we celebrate that someone has been united with Christ—and welcomed into His church.

It’s also a symbol: a picture of being washed clean (1 Cor. 6:11), buried with Christ, and raised to walk in newness of life (Rom. 6:4). A declaration that “I belong to Jesus. I’ve died to sin. I’ve been made alive to God.”

And it’s a story. Each baptism tells the story of what God has done. Before the water, you’ll hear testimonies of faith. We ask simple, but powerful questions:
  • Do you believe that Jesus is God?
  • Do you believe He died and rose again?
  • Do you believe He has the power to forgive sins?
A “yes” to those questions? That’s the sign: you belong to Him.

And finally, baptism is a celebration. This is a time to clap, cheer, cry, sing, hug—whatever godly expression helps us rejoice together over lives changed by Jesus. Every generation, crying out in praise.

What we believe...

  • Baptism is for believers—those who have trusted Jesus as Lord and Savior.
  • Baptism does not save—only Jesus does.
  • We humbly practice baptism by immersion as a picture of death, burial, and resurrection (while honoring the wider practices of baptism within Jesus' church).
  • Baptism is a command and delight for all who follow Jesus.

What About Kids?

If your child is asking about Jesus or baptism, that’s a precious moment. We want to equip parents to disciple their kids in the gospel.
We also encourage parents to meet with a pastor to walk through conversations of faith and readiness together.

There’s been an obvious void in my life for most of my adult years… finally I turned to Christ. Now my heart is completely open, and I cry tears of joy, amazement, and gratitude.

- Hannah

I know that Jesus is the Son of God who died on the cross. He forgives people even though they hurt Him. He has forgiven my sins and is helping me work through my emotions.

- Phoenix

I started to understand that I needed Jesus to redeem me from my sin. I knew I wanted to follow Him.

- Ezra
